DreamHost Review: Living the Dream
Posted By admin on June 14, 2011
Does DreamHost want to present itself as a scrubbed-face hosting provider straight from a cyberspace version of the Waltons? Their pastel-hued website is filled with photos of employees’ children (“we are a tight-knit family”) and declarations about their carbon neutrality. Fuel for driving to work, paper and electricity all leave behind “soul-sucking residue in the world,” the site says in a rather preachy manner. Apparently, no self-respecting DreamHost employee would dream of even drinking from a coffee cup that didn’t come from a fully renewable source.
DreamHost is employee-owned, a fact they are clearly proud of and which may cause many people to find their corporate image trustworthy and attractive. They will never sell out to investors or another company, says the site. “The guys who work at those companies are crazy…they wear suits…and cologne!” says the site in horrified tones.
Of course green hosting is attractive for more than one reason, and customers may read a DreamHost review and well decide that having that green tag on their own site is worth paying a little more for.
